2-year-old dies after she was left alone in a hot car, New Jersey cops say
A toddler died after being left in a hot car for an unknown amount of time, New Jersey cops say.
The 2-year-old girl was found in cardiac arrest shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, according to an Aug. 31 news release from the Franklin Township Police Department.
When officers arrived at the scene, the child was unresponsive and a neighbor who is a member of a fire department was administering CPR.
Officers assisted the neighbor until units from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital arrived. Despite lifesaving measures, the child was pronounced dead at the scene, the release says.
Police say they are investigating, but indications are the child was left unattended in the car. It is unknown how long the child was in the car.
Neighbors described the child’s parents as “screaming in pain and anguish,” according to ABC 7.
“I heard the dad screaming uncontrollably, and then I heard the mom start wailing, really sobbing,” Treana Huntley told the news outlet.
