A Pennsylvania middle school is mourning the death of one of its students who reportedly died before a basketball practice Wednesday.

Jayson Kidd, a 12-year-old student at Chartiers Valley Middle School in Bridgeville, collapsed during warm-ups at a practice held at the school Wednesday, a medical examiner told WTAE. He died at a local hospital, according to the Tribune-Review.

A cause of death has not been released.

Johanna Vanatta, the superintendent for the Chartiers Valley School District, did not comment on the specifics of the death but said the district was “deeply saddened by a tragic incident.”

“I am confident that our community will rise in support,” Vanatta said in a statement. “My thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers and all those affected by this tragedy.”

A crisis team will be made available Thursday for students and teachers at the middle school, according to the superintendent.

Chartiers Valley is about 10 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.
