Dashboard camera footage of Castile shooting released
Previously only seen in court, officials on Tuesday released dashboard camera footage of the moments surrounding Philandro Castile’s shooting death.
Castile was shot by Officer Jeronimo Yanez on July 6, 2016, after the officer pulled Castile over in Minnesota. Yanez was recently acquitted of all charges in the fatal shooting, the New York Times reported.
The video, taken from Yanez’s patrol car dashboard camera, shows the rear of Castile’s vehicle and the officer’s interaction with Castile.
Millions of people saw the aftermath of the shooting before the dashboard camera footage was released when Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, livestreamed to Facebook, according to the New York Times.
