Palm Aire Country Club members to hop on bus for speed limit debate at Manatee commission meeting

MANATEE -- Palm Aire Country Club has organized a bus for at least 50 members to attend Tuesday's Manatee County Commission meeting to voice their objection to a proposed speed limit increase and golf cart ban on Whitfield Avenue.

"This issue to our club is the most important issue we will have to deal with," Palm Aire Country Club president Ed Kornberger said. "More important than any event, any tournament, any golf course condition. This issue is more important to the future of this organization than any other."

At Tuesday's meeting, the commission will consider changing speed limits on 12 county roads, including the stretch on Whitfield Avenue between Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway. The public hearing starts at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first-floor commission chambers, Manatee County Administrative Center, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.

The commission will also consider an ordinance that would remove Whitfield Avenue, Tara Boulevard and El Conquistador Parkway from the list of roadways designated for golf carts.

Kornberger said the club received "requests from a bunch of members who have asked for help with transportation."

"This issue is being supported not just by country club members," he said. "It's important. Its very important."
