Both southbound lanes have reopened after a 10-vehicle crash temporarily shut down southbound traffic on the DeSoto Bridge in Manatee County Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A cement truck was heading southbound on the DeSoto Bridge when it hit another vehicle and started the pileup, Bradenton police said.

The crash happened around 2:37 p.m., according to the Florida Department of Transportation’s live traffic map. The accident caused major traffic delays in the area.

At least five people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Seven vehicles were towed from the scene.

Around 4 p.m., the Bradenton Police Department announced that one southbound traffic lane had reopened. By 4:30 p.m., both lanes had reopened.

The crash is still under investigation, police said.

No further details about the crash were available as of Wednesday afternoon.
