An 81-year-old Sarasota woman was killed in a Manatee County crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release Friday morning.

The two-vehicle accident happened around 7:28 p.m. Thursday when the woman’s SUV was traveling west on the driveway access of 8431 North Tamiami Trail toward U.S. 41 near the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, according to the release.

Troopers say a second SUV was traveling north in the middle lane of U.S. 41 approaching Seagate Drive when the 81-year-old driver pulled out in front of the second SUV to turn south onto U.S. 41, causing the two to collide.

The front of the second SUV collided with the left side of the 81-year-old’s SUV, which was also carrying an 84-year-old passenger.

The 81-year-old died at the scene of the crash, while her passenger and the 54-year-old driver of the second SUV suffered minor injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.

The crash remains under investigation.
