New York bicyclist dies in crash with SUV on Anna Maria Island bridge, Florida troopers say
A bicyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV on the Anna Maria Island bridge just after midnight on Wednesday morning.
The 33-year-old man from Lancaster, New York, was biking in the eastbound lane on the Anna Maria Bridge at 12:23 a.m. when a 23-year-old Bradenton man drove an SUV east toward the bridge’s middle, Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to an FHP report, the front left of the SUV hit the right side of the bike, which sent the New York man off the bike and into the bridge’s concrete surface.
The SUV went in the same direction and hit a raised curb, before coming to a stop east of the crash area, FHP said.
The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital and FHP’s traffic homicide unit is continuing their investigation.
