Ellenton man dies after pickup overturns into pond off US 301, FHP says
A 62-year-old Ellenton man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 301 in Manatee County early Tuesday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
His pickup truck was traveling north on U.S. 301 along the State Road 43 section between Palmetto and the Florida State Fairgrounds, south of Chin Road, when he veered left and then back right in an effort to regain control of his truck but was unable to do so.
The truck instead entered the grassy shoulder along the road, where it hit a wooden sign and overturned into a retention pond, east of U.S. 301.
The driver, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
