Part of State Road 64 closed near Bradenton after high-speed DUI chase, officials say

Update: One eastbound lane has reopened to traffic.

Traffic is being diverted on State Road 64 East after a high-speed chase on Thursday morning that damaged a utility pole.

The utility pole was damaged on the east-bound side of S.R. 64 by the Greyhawk roundabout and Pope Road, the Florida Department of Transportation said Thursday in a press release.

The crash followed a short chase by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, which is being treated as a driving under the influence case, MSO spokesman Randy Warren said.

The crash, about 2 a.m. Thursday, resulted in minor injuries to the driver, Warren said.

Traffic is being diverted at Aurora Boulevard and Peace Presbyterian Church while the pole is repaired.

FDOT requests drivers use alternate routes.

The roadway will re-open when repairs to the pole are complete.
