12-year-old dies after hit by car while crossing road with mom, Palmetto chief says
A 12-year-old boy from Palmetto has died after he was hit while crossing the street with his mother on Monday, according to Palmetto Police Department.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of 8th Ave. W. in Palmetto.
Palmetto Police Chief Scott Tyler told the Bradenton Herald on Tuesday that the boy and his mother were crossing 8th Ave. in an area where there was no crosswalk.
As they started to cross the street, the child broke away from his mother, running across the street, where he was hit in the southbound lane.
The child was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital but died from his injuries, Tyler said.
The driver who hit the child was not injured and will not be charged.
