18-year-old dies in Sarasota crash and 16-year-old seriously injured, FHP says
An 18-year-old Sarasota driver died after hitting a tree early Tuesday morning, and another teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release.
The fatal crash happened at 1:22 a.m. on Beneva Road, south of White Sulphur Place in Sarasota.
The 18-year-old woman was driving while a 16-year-old girl was riding with her.
The two were traveling south on Beneva Road in the outside lane when she lost control of the SUV, drove over the median curb, and hit a tree, the release said.
The 16-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and the 18-year-old woman died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
