Bacon truck spills frozen food, blocks traffic on I-75 after crash in Manatee County
A crash involving two tractor-trailers and a pickup truck closed several lanes of Interstate 75 South in Manatee County on Tuesday morning, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
The wreck happened at 5:45 a.m. north of the Moccasin Wallow Road near Parrish.
A tractor-trailer with a flat tire was pulled off of the west side of the interstate on a paved shoulder.
A tractor-trailer with a Wright Brand Bacon logo was traveling south in the right lane of the interstate. It veered off I-75 and sideswiped the parked vehicle, FHP said.
After the initial impact, the front of the bacon truck hit the rear of a pickup truck driving on the interstate, causing the pickup to overturn.
The bacon truck also overturned; it came to a rest on the grass median, where it spilled hundreds of boxes of frozen food.
The driver of the bacon truck was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, FHP said. No other injuries were reported.
Traffic was reduced to one lane as emergency crews responded, and there were delays for approximately 10 miles, Spectrum Bay News 9 reported.
All lanes of I-75 were reopened as of Tuesday afternoon.
