A man from Maine was killed in a single-car crash in Manatee County on Tuesday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release.

The crash happened at 4:47 p.m. on Tara Boulevard and Chickasaw Bayou Road in Bradenton.

A 42-year-old man from Bangor City was driving a sedan south on Tara Boulevard in the outer lane, attempting to negotiate a right turn at Chickasaw Bayou Road, the release said.

The man lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, entered the grass median, and hit a light pole and two street signs.

FHP said the vehicle continued to accelerate, crossing the northbound travel lanes and hitting a tree.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash is still being investigated.
