61-year-old woman dies in late-night, head-on crash in northern Manatee County
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on traffic crash that claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman late Tuesday night.
The crash, on a curved section of Gillet Drive, east of Gillet Road, occurred about 11:15 p.m.
A westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle, the FHP said.
The driver of the westbound vehicle died in the crash.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 53-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The area where the crash occurred is north of Moccasin Wallow Road and west of Interstate 75 near Palmetto.
The crash remains under investigation.
