A charter bus carrying 50 people crashed on Interstate 75 in Manatee County, FHP says
A charter bus crashed early Thursday morning on southbound Interstate 75, Florida Highway Patrol said in a press release.
It happened around 5:45 a.m. near the entrance ramp for State Road 64 in Manatee County.
Senior Trooper Kenneth Watson told the Bradenton Herald the charter bus had 50 passengers on board and was heading south to Fort Myers.
The bus was in the middle lane of I-75, while a sedan driven by a 70-year-old woman from Bradenton was also traveling south from the entrance ramp on State Road 64.
The woman lost control of her vehicle, driving into the median and the charter bus’s path.
FHP said the right front of the charter bus hit the left side of the woman’s vehicle, causing it to spin out of control and hit a concrete barrier wall with its left end.
The 70-year-old woman and a second passenger in her vehicle, also a woman, suffered serious injuries from the crash.
No passengers on the bus had injuries reported.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
