Broward County man dies after hit by car in Bradenton, closing a main road, FHP says
A 42-year-old man was killed when a driver hit him on a dark road Tuesday morning, causing troopers to shut down a main road in Oneco in Bradenton, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened at 5:27 a.m. on 15th Street East and 55th Avenue Drive East.
FHP said the man was walking along 15th street in the dark without any reflective material or flashlight to make himself visible to drivers.
At the same time, a 46-year-old man from Bradenton was driving in a Buick traveling south on 15th Street approaching 55th Avenue and hit the man with the front left of his car.
The Buick driver came to a stop on the side of the street, and the man’s body came to rest in the roadway.
Manatee County first responders pronounced the man dead on the scene.
He was a resident of Pembroke Pines in Broward County.
The crash was cleared at 9:21 a.m. and all lanes of traffic were reopened.
Florida Highway Patrol Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
