Louisiana man thrown from SUV, dies in highway crash near Palmetto, Florida troopers say

A 57-year-old man from Lake Charles, Louisiana, died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 19 in Manatee County on Thursday morning, Florida Highway Patrol says.

The wreck happened at 5:20 a.m. south of Ken Hubbard Road in the Terra Ceia area, north of Palmetto and Bradenton.

Troopers say the Lake Charles man was driving an SUV in the southbound lanes of U.S. 19 when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway. The SUV then went over a grass shoulder and collided with a cement culvert.

Traffic investigators say the SUV overturned upon impact, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Troopers say the man was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remained under investigation on Thursday afternoon.
