Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash on US 301 in Ellenton, FHP says. Driver wanted.

A pedestrian crossing U.S. 301 in Ellenton died after two drivers hit the person and one left the scene of the crash, Florida Highway Patrol said Friday in a press release.

The crash happened at 12:34 a.m. on Friday.

Two people were traveling west on U.S. 301 and hit a pedestrian who was trying to walk across the intersection of U.S. 301 and Interstate 75.

Troopers said a person driving a vehicle — possibly blue in color — hit the pedestrian first, and the impact left the person lying in the center lane of U.S. 301.

That driver then drove away from the crash.

Another driver, a 30-year-old man from Coral Springs, hit the pedestrian a second time, FHP said.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital and later died.

FHP has not yet identified the pedestrian.

Troopers are still looking for the first driver, and the investigation is ongoing.

If anyone has information on this crash contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crimestoppers at (866)-634-8477.
