An overnight crash on State Road 70 has left two people dead, another woman with critical injuries, and three children in critical condition, the Florida Highway Patrol said Wednesday in a news release.

The crash happened at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday west of Sugar Bowl Road in Myakka City.

A 38-year-old Bradenton man was driving with a 31-year-old woman and three children in his sedan. They were traveling west on SR 70.

A 26-year-old man from Sarasota drove another sedan, with a 31-year-old man from Bradenton as his passenger, were traveling east.

The 38-year-old Bradenton man drove into the eastbound lane, hitting the other vehicle head-on, FHP said.

His vehicle then spun around and stopped in the westbound lane of State Road 70. The car he hit turned out of control and hit a guardrail, FHP said.

The two drivers died at the scene of the crash.

The 31-year-old woman and three children, who are girls age 5, 7, and 12, were all transported to the hospital and suffered critical injuries.

The 31-year-old man from Bradenton was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, FHP said.
