Hit-and-run crash in Ellenton leaves motorcyclist in critical condition, FHP says
A man was thrown from his motorcycle and is now in critical condition after being hit by a driver of an SUV on Monday afternoon on U.S. 301 in Ellenton, the Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday in a news release.
The crash happened at 3:25 p.m. on U.S 301 and 45th Ave. East.
A 56-year old man from Parrish was on his motorcycle traveling east on U.S. 301, turning left near 45th Ave East while a black Nissan SUV drove behind him, FHP said.
The driver of the black SUV then hit the man on the motorcycle from the rear with the front right of their vehicle.
The crash threw the man from his motorcycle, his body landed on the south shoulder of the highway, and his bike also laid overturned on the south shoulder.
An ambulance took him to the hospital in critical condition, FHP said.
Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver of the black Nissan SUV made between 2008-2010 with a Florida license plate and damage to the right front side.
