A man died while riding as a passenger in a garbage truck on Tuesday afternoon in Bradenton, the Florida Highway Patrol said Wednesday in a news release.

The crash took place at 12:41 p.m. on State Road 64 near Lena Road.

A 47-year-old man from Sarasota was riding as a passenger in a garbage truck traveling west on State Road 64 when the driver tried to make a left turn onto Lena Road and ended up overturned on the truck’s left side.

While overturned, the truck continued to travel forward, hitting a concrete curb, traffic control box, and utility pole, FHP said.

The truck eventually stopped on its right side, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was a 24-year-old man from Bradenton.

He suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash, FHP said.
