Motorcyclist dies weeks after crash with van on U.S. 41 in Palmetto, FHP says

A motorcyclist has died several weeks after a crash on U.S. 41 in Manatee County, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release on Monday.

The motorcyclist, a 54-year-old woman from Seminole, Florida, had been receiving care at HCA Florida Blake Hospital in Bradenton since the wreck on March 4.

The crash happened at 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 41 and 21st Street East in Palmetto.

Troopers say a van driven by a 22-year-old Palmetto woman with six passengers inside was stopped at a stop sign on 21st Street. The Seminole woman was riding her motorcycle southbound on U.S. 41.

Troopers say the driver of the van then entered the intersection and crossed the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle hit the right side of the van, rotated and overturned, the news release said.

The Seminole woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition. She died on Sunday, FHP said. Traffic investigators noted that she was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

As of Monday, the wreck remained under investigation.
