Vehicle fire closes lanes of Sunshine Skyway Bridge

All southbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge were temporarily closed on Monday evening due to a vehicle on fire.

Florida Department of Transportation reported the incident at 5:30 p.m. The vehicle was located near mile marker 12 on Interstate 275 South, near the base of the bridge.

Emergency responders were at the scene a short time later bringing the blaze under control. As of 5:50 p.m., the left lane of the bridge had reopened to traffic.

Firefighters were still at the scene, and traffic remained congested in the area.
