A 69-year-old Bradenton woman hit by a turning SUV, Florida Highway Patrol says

A 69-year-old pedestrian is in serious condition after she was hit by a turning vehicle at an intersection in a Manatee County neighborhood, the Florida Highway Patrol says.

It happened at 10:42 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Braden Run and 59th Avenue East in the Lakewood Ranch area.

Troopers say the Bradenton woman was walking north on a sidewalk along Braden Run. When she entered the intersection at 59th Avenue, she was struck by a southbound SUV making a left turn.

The woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition, FHP says.

The driver of the SUV, an 83-year-old Bradenton man, was not hurt.

There are no marked crosswalks at the intersection for pedestrians or stop signs for north-south traffic. Troopers did not immediately confirm who had the right of way. The incident remains under investigation.
