A 16-year-old from Myakka City suffered critical injuries early Sunday morning from a car accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was traveling east on State Road 64, east of Waterbury Road, in a pickup truck when the vehicle left the roadway as it approached a curve around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, FHP said. The truck collided with a concrete utility pole and caught on fire, according to FHP.

The 16-year-old, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to Blake Medical Center in critical condition, according to FHP.
