Police chase ends in a fiery rollover crash on State Road 64 in Bradenton

A police chase involving an attempted murder suspect ended in a vehicle fire and rollover crash Friday afternoon, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies located Reginald Callaway Jr., 28, around 12:30 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop, according to Melissa Conway, the sheriff’s office’s public information specialist. The suspect attempted to drive away, Conway said, and deputies began a chase.

Callaway, who was alone in the vehicle, attempted to avoid the stop sticks placed in the road and lost control of the vehicle. The car rolled over and landed upside down near the entrance to Gerzeny’s RV World, 6120 State Road 64 E., Bradenton.

Several agencies, including the Bradenton Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol, responded to the crash, which temporarily blocked all eastbound lanes on State Road 64.

Callaway sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and is being treated at a nearby hospital. No one else was injured

According to a release, an arrest warrant was put out for Callaway’s arrest due to his involvement in a Palmetto shooting. Investigators say Callaway shot someone in the 300 block of 21st Street West in Palmetto on Aug. 4. The victim’s name has been withheld by the sheriff’s office.
