Fatal crash shuts down southbound Interstate 75 in Manatee, troopers say 

All southbound lanes of Interstate 75 are temporarily closed after a fatal traffic crash in Manatee County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

At least one person died in the crash Wednesday afternoon. Two semi-tractor trailers and seven passenger vehicles were involved, FHP said.

The accident occurred on an overpass at the interchange of I-75 and University Parkway, close to the Manatee-Sarasota county line.

Southbound traffic is being directed off of the interstate at the University Parkway exit.

Troopers were dispatched to the scene around 1:15 p.m., and a traffic investigation was ongoing throughout the afternoon.

The interstate remained closed just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, and troopers advised motorists to seek alternate routes.
