Stuck in southbound traffic on I-75 in Sarasota? Here’s why

Southbound traffic on Interstate 75 between Fruitville Road and University Parkway was down to one lane for an unspecified reason Wednesday morning around 8:15 a.m. and the closure lasted until just after 9:30 a.m.

Traffic cameras showed Sarasota County emergency vehicles on the scene, but the Florida Highway Patrol only reported that the freeway lanes were closed due to “other conditions.”

Cameras also showed fresh skid marks crossing and exiting the freeway onto the right shoulder and crews were using materials to soak up an unknown fluid in the right-center lane. A dump truck was seen being towed from the scene, but without damage to the vehicle.

No official cause for the closure was released as of Wednesday morning.
