Stuck in Desoto Bridge traffic? Vehicle crash was to blame

Traffic officials reported a vehicle crash near the Desoto Bridge just before 7 a.m. on Friday that caused motorists headaches for about 90 minutes until the crash was cleared around 8:30 a.m.

The accident blocked one southbound lane on the bridge, which caused southbound traffic to backup on U.S. 41 well past Haben Boulevard for the duration of the incident.

Traffic cameras on the Palmetto side of the bridge showed motorists moving again, albeit slowly, shortly after the accident was cleared.

Details of the accident were not immediately known, but some motorists posting on social media who had passed the scene reported it as a multiple car crash, however that has not been confirmed by authorities.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
