SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a crash after a woman and her young grandchild were struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 301 have been reopened after they were closed due to the crash, which occurred at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Fourth Street in Sarasota about 10 a.m., according to a release.

The woman was crossing U.S. 301 with a 1-year-old boy in a stroller when she and the stroller were struck by a Cadillac SUV, police said. The child has been taken by helicopter to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he is listed in stable condition.

The grandmother was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver is cooperating with officers and police said they do not expect charges for him. Charges for the grandmother are possible.
