Construction worker struck, killed on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County
SARASOTA -- A 54-year-old construction worker has died after a construction vehicle struck him on Interstate 75 Thursday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The construction vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old man, was heading north in the left lane on I-75 east of North Toledo Blade Boulevard at 9:33 p.m., according to a release. The lane is a designated construction zone.
John David Markle, of Port Charlotte, was working in the lane. The driver did not see Markle and struck him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Charges are pending depending on the investigation.
