Child found after Amber Alert issued on reports of car stolen with child inside in Fort Lauderdale

The 10-month-old that was the subject of an Amber Alert Monday afternoon was found safe in an abandoned car in Pompano Beach, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4.

The child was reported missing after her mother's car, a dark green Chevrolet Cruze, was stolen from outside a Fort Lauderdale coin laundry with her daughter inside, authorities said.

Yareli Velasco, who was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt with a red heart on the middle and pink pants, was left alone in the car.

Police spokeswoman Tracy Figone said the call came in at around 4 p.m. that a car was stolen from the 200 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.

The alert had asked for people to be on the lookout for a 20-year-old man wearing a dark long sleeve jacket or shirt, blue jeans and Timberland boots in a green 2014 Chevrolet Cruze with a Florida tag number BPS7436.

The man was not with the car when the child was found.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-764-HELP (4357).
