Woman in wheelchair hit by car in Englewood
SARASOTA -- A 52-year-old woman in a wheelchair was stuck and seriously injured Wednesday evening near Englewood, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
About 8:13 p.m., the woman, who is from Englewood, was riding in the travel lane of northbound Pine Street near Crestwood Road, when she was struck by a northbound car driven by a 78-year-old Venice woman, FHP said in a news release.
Troopers said the wheelchair did not have any lights or reflectors on it, and poor visibility caused by rain may also have been a factor in the crash.
The injured woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where she was in critical condition, troopers said.
