Sarasota man dies following New Year's Day pedestrian crash

SARASOTA -- A man who was hit by a car while crossing Fruitville Road died Sunday after he was taken off life support, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Aaron Johnson, 41, of Sarasota, was crossing Fruitville Road at the intersection with Beneva Road at 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to a release. An unspecified vehicle hit Johnson, and the vehicle had a green light at the time, police said.

The driver is cooperating with officers and no charges have been filed.
