Pedestrian dead after improperly crossing U.S. 41 in Manatee
MANATEE -- A pedestrian died Sunday night after he was crossing U.S. 41 and a vehicle hit him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 2004 Chevy Tahoe, driven by a 24-year-old woman, was southbound on U.S. 41 approaching the intersection with 50th Avenue Place West at 8:04 p.m., according to a release. The unidentified pedestrian was crossing U.S. 41 north of the intersection.
The man walked into the lane of the Tahoe, but the driver did not see him in time to stop. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Neither the driver nor the two passengers of the vehicle were injured. Troopers said they are not planning to file charges.
Based on the final position of the man, troopers believe a second car northbound on U.S. 41 might have hit him, too. Anyone with information about a second vehicle hitting the pedestrian should call Cpl. James Wilmeth at 941-751-8357.
