Man seen clinging to DeSoto bridge piling was able to pull himself onto bridge catwalk

MANATEE -- A man who was seen clinging to a piling under the DeSoto Bridge over the Manatee River was able to pull himself up onto the bridge's catwalk.

At about 1 p.m. Tuesday, a 911 caller calling from a boat reported seeing someone clinging to a piling, according to the Manatee County Emergency Communications Center. Nearby the person a partially submerged boat was also seen.

The man was able to pull himself onto the bridge's catwalk, according to the Bradenton Police Department who responded to the scene.

The man was not injured, according to the police report. The boat did reportedly capsize.

Manatee County Sheriff's Office helicopter and the U.S. Coast Guard assisted at the scene. Paramedics also responded.
