TAMPA -- Two people were killed late Wednesday when a car slammed into a house on Main Street in Tampa.

According to Tampa police, the two occupants of a black sedan died at the scene when their vehicle crashed into the home at 2535 Main Street just before 11:30 p.m.

Police say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and left the road. The vehicle struck a wall along the sidewalk, hit a wrought iron fence and then the house before coming to a rest in the front yard.

Three adults and two children inside of the home were not hurt.

A witness said the car did not have headlights on as it ran through the intersections at Howard and Armenia avenues and Howard and Main Street before plowing into the home.

Police are investigating the crash.
