60-year-old driver crashes scooter into parking block in Sarasota
SARASOTA -- A 60-year-old man is in serious condition after crashing a scooter in a parking lot Sunday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Venice man was driving a KYMCO Xciting scooter northbound in a private parking lot adjacent to U.S. 41 in the 1600 block of Tamiami Trail South at 12:44 p.m., according to a release.
The scooter hit a concrete parking block, and the vehicle flipped over the parking block, making contact with the ground before flying another 20 feet forward and hitting the ground again, according to witnesses. The scooter then traveled another 47 feet north before coming to rest.
The driver was propelled forward about 20 feet after contact with the parking block, troopers said. He was transported to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.
The driver was cited for careless driving, according to the release.
