Sarasota police: Man raped baby, then traded naked pictures of child online

SARASOTA -- A Sarasota man faces child pornography and other charges after he raped a 1-year-old boy, took naked photos of the child and then traded the images with people in the United States and overseas, Sarasota police said Friday.

Police were to discuss details of the investigation of Dannie Ray Horner, 34, during a news conference Friday morning.

Horner is being held without bond at the Sarasota County jail. He faces multiple charges, including felony sexual battery, felony sexual performance by a child/production of child pornography, felony transmission of pornography by electronic device and felony battery.

Police said the abuse took place between this past October and January.

Police said Horner traded images of the child with people in West Virginia, as well as in Australia and Argentina.

If convicted, he could face life in prison.

Sarasota Police Detective Megan Buck, a member of the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force, is the lead investigator on the case. She worked with other investigators, including Detective Kevin Bunch from the Bradenton Police Department and other investigators from the Sarasota Police Department, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
