Two Manatee County women among 25 new coronavirus cases in Florida, health officials say

Two Manatee County residents are among 25 new coronavirus cases announced early Saturday by the Florida Department of Health.

Just after midnight, the Florida Department of Health announced that an additional 25 people had tested positive for COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus.

Among those cases were two Manatee residents: A 67-year-old woman and a 62-year-old Manatee County woman. The older woman is believed to have contracted the virus through domestic travel, while the case involving the 62-year-old woman is not travel-related.

The latest cases make of a total of four Manatee County residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The first Manatee patient, a 63-year-old man, was diagnosed and treated at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota. He has since recovered and have been released from the hospital.

The second Manatee case is an 81-year-old woman who traveled on a Nile River cruise in Egypt.

Among the newest cases are nine cases in Broward County, six in Miami-Dade County and three in Palm Beach County.

In all, the state listed 70 Florida residents and seven non-Florida residents who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
