SCF spring commencement to graduate 906 Friday
PALMETTO -- State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, spring commencement will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Bradenton Area Convention Center, 1 Haben Blvd., Palmetto.
Of 926 students eligible to graduate, 402 are expected to participate. Graduates include 602 associate in arts degrees, 205 associate in science degrees, 79 baccalaureate graduates and 40 certificate graduates (several graduates are earning multiple degrees).
Graduation speaker will be John C. Horne, owner of Anna Maria Oyster Bar and a philanthropist. Every year he sponsors the Horne and Moon Social Event, which raises money for scholarships at SCF as well as Manatee Technical College and University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee.
The Outstanding Graduate Award will be presented to one of the finalists: Ava Doraisamy, Nathaly Marin, Elizabeth Anne Miller, Sofia Liana Sirocchi or Ella Starr.
Macebearer Darlene C. Wedler-Johnson, Venice campus executive officer, will retire in July after 34 years of service to SCF.
