Two State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota students recently won a poster contest sponsored by Transition Venice.

Ashley McGuire won first place for her poster on development and Dakotah Cranford took second place for a poster on eating locally grown organic food. Both were students in Katrina Grey’s computer graphics class at SCF Venice, according to officials. The students were asked to design posters that educate about sustainability.

The grassroots organization is concerned with sustainability and making Venice more self-reliant when it comes to food, energy and commerce.

The contest was marketed through Sustainable SCF, a group committed to encouraging and facilitating the collaborative efforts of faculty, students and staff.

McGuire won $50 for her poster showing a metropolitan area sitting on the stump of a tree. Cranford won $25 for a poster titled “Think Green, Eat Clean” touting organic foods produced locally.
