Gov. Rick Scott reappoints Joe Gruters to Florida State University Board of Trustees

Also reappointed is Emily 'June' Duda. Maximo Alvarez is new appointee.

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Rick Scott announced one appointment and two reappointments Friday to the Florida State University Board of Trustees.

The actions, all for terms beginning Friday and ending Jan. 6, 2021, are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Reappointees include:

Joseph Gruters, 38, of Sarasota, is the owner of Gruters CPA. He previously served as chairman of the Sarasota County Planning Commission and as a member of the Florida Sports Foundation Board of Directors.

Gruters received his bachelor's degree from Florida State University and master's degree from the University of South Florida.

Gruters is chairman of Donald Trump's presidential campaign in Florida, chairman of the Sarasota Republican Party and a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives.

Emily "June" Duda, 73, of Oviedo, an active member of the Seminole Boosters previously served five years on the board's executive committee. She was awarded the Godfrey Smith Award for Outstanding Service to the board in 2000. Duda was a previous member of the Seminole County Soil and Conservation District Board of Trustees and the Florida Leadership Program for Agriculture and Natural Resources Board of Directors.

The new appointee is Maximo Alvarez, 67, of Doral, founder and president of Sunshine Gasoline Distributors Inc. He is a member of the First Tee Board of Trustees, Miami Children's Hospital, Centro Hispanico Catholic and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Alvarez received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University. He succeeds Allan Bense.
