State-mandated testing for students picks up for spring

MANATEE -- While the bulk of state-mandated testing for students comes in mid-April, Manatee County high school students picked up testing on Monday.

High school students started computer-based testing on Monday, with elementary school students picking back up with paper-based assessments on Tuesday. Some tests were taken before the district's spring break, but the majority of testing will continue throughout the spring until the end of the school year. Third-grade students are in the process of taking the English Language Arts exam for the state, and most of the high school exams going on now are retakes, according to the school district's testing calendar.

This is the second year students across the state are taking tests tied to new state standards for learning.
