Secrecy allows sexual abuse to occur over a long period of time. Teach your child to never keep a secret with an adult.

Children like to help and show how smart they are but they should be taught to never help someone find a lost puppy, kitten or pet and they should not help adults with directions. These are effective lures used by predators that can trick children.

Teach children who "safe strangers" are -- people they can go to if they are in danger or need help. Safe strangers are police officers or a clerk in a store or another mom with a child.
