Manatee County students sweep at state technology competition

MANATEE -- Almost 350 Manatee County middle and high school students recently competed in the 38th Technology Student Association State Conference in Orlando.

More than 1,700 students statewide competed in 75 events. The schools that competed for Manatee included: Bayshore High, Braden River High, Lakewood Ranch High, Manatee High, Palmetto High, Southeast High, Braden River Middle, Buffalo Creek Middle, Haile Middle, Johnson Middle, Lee Middle, Nolan Middle and Sugg Middle.

This was the 11th year Manatee students captured more trophies and earned more top-10 finishes than any other school district in Florida. When the 2-plus hour awards ceremony concluded, Manatee County students continued their excellence and brought home 48 first-place event trophies, 39 second-place trophies, and 30 third-place trophies, for a record of 117 event trophies and easily outdistancing all other school districts in Florida.

"This is an amazing accomplishment and one that shows just how hard our teachers, students and schools are working," Superintendent Diana Greene said in a statement. "Many of our students worked tirelessly over the weekends and after school hours in the months leading up to the State Conference and will be heading to national events that will take place later this summer in Nashville, Tenn."

A complete list of event results and video from the awards ceremony are posted at http://floridatsa.com.
