Gov. Rick Scott appoints two to New College of Florida board of trustees

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Rick Scott has appointed a banking executive and a CEO at a communications company to the New College of Florida board of trustees.

Norman Worthington III, 56, of Sarasota, is the chief executive officer of both Star2Star Communications and Copytalk, LLC. He previously served on the New College of Florida Foundation Board and is a New College alumnus.

Worthington received his bachelor's degree from the New College of Florida and a law degree from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College. He succeeds Steven Snyder for a term beginning Monday and ending Jan. 6, 2021.

Fermin Miranda, 51, of Bradenton, is the senior vice president of Cadence Bank. He is appointed to a vacant seat for a term beginning Monday and ending Jan. 6, 2018.

He currently serves as chairman of the international trade committee for the Bradenton Economic Development Corporation and previously served as chairman of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
