Dave Miner sworn in to lead coalition of 13 school boards
BRADENTON -- Dave Miner was sworn in as chair of the Central Florida Public School Boards Coalition on Wednesday.
Miner begins a one-year term leading the coalition, which includes 13 school districts and represents more than 1 million students. The coalition works together to determine best practices for school boards and to lobby lawmakers and politicians on issues affecting the schools. A recent hot-topic of coalition discussion has been what many in the education arena call over testing of students in the public schools.
Miner, who represents the Manatee County School Board on the coalition, served two terms as vice chair before being appointed to the position earlier this year. He was formally sworn in as the chair on Wednesday at the coalition's mid-year meeting in Tampa.
In Manatee County, Miner served two terms as the board vice chair but has not yet been appointed chair in Manatee County. Miner is running for re-election to the school board in 2016, for the District 3 seat, which covers west Bradenton and Anna Maria Island.
Miner was first elected in 2012.
