The School District of Manatee County wants community members to submit name ideas for a new high school in Lakewood Ranch.

The school, temporarily named “High School AAA,” will be built at the intersection of Post Boulevard and Rangeland Parkway near the Premier Sports Campus. It’s expected to open to ninth and tenth grade students in August 2027, and will be fully open by August 2029.

Community members who wish to submit a name recommendation can do so now through a form on the district’s website. Nominations will be accepted through April 10.

“All nominations will be accepted by the School District, and the School Board has expressed a preference for regional and geographic-related names that reflect the surrounding community and area,” a statement from the district said. “Community members are encouraged to participate in the naming process and help shape the identity of Manatee County’s newest high school.”

The district broke ground on High School AAA in January. The $144 million, 300,000-square-foot school will help address growth in the Lakewood Ranch area.

The school will be a “modified reuse” of the Parrish Community High School design, but with some unique features. For example, High School AAA will be the district’s first school with collegiate-style lecture halls. There will also be state-of-the-art sports facilities.

Timeline for High School AAA naming process

According to the district’s website, a list of name nominations will be posted to the district website on April 13. Then, the school board will hold a workshop on April 14 and narrow the list to finalists.

The public will have until April 20 to share feedback about the finalists before the school board determines the final name of the high school at a meeting in late April or May.

The school is planned to open in August 2027 for ninth and tenth grade students. Those students will progress through the school so that one grade level is added each year, until August 2029 when the school will be open to all grades.
