Helicopter called to Manatee elementary school after reported playground collision

Manatee County EMS responded to a trauma alert was issued for Bashaw Elementary School, 3515 57th Street East, on Monday, the second such incident for county schools in less than a month.

“There was reportedly a collision between two students on the playground and possibly a concussion,” Manatee County School District spokesman Mike Barber said. “A helicopter has been called and a student may be transported.”

No other details were given.

In mid-October, a Braden River Elementary School student, aged 6, “fell approximately 10 feet and broke his ‘right elbow/arm area,’” according to audio from a 911 call the Herald obtained in an earlier report.

A medevac, also known as a medical evacuation, helicopter was called for that incident.
